Scientists estimate that a person can remember an average of 5,000 faces. This includes close friends, acquaintances, and, of course, celebrities. Some people have an incredible ability to recognize faces they’ve only seen briefly or have not seen in a long time. They're affectionately called “super recognizers” - whose "fusiform gyrus", a part of the brain in the temporal lobe that researchers have correlated with facial recognition ability, may help us understand more about memory when studied closer.
