In Inuit mythology, the Qalupalik is a creature that exists underneath the ice. Inuit children are warned not to get too close to the water’s edge because the Qalupalik might jump up and snatch them! It was believed that the Qalupalik would sometimes tap its fingers on the ice under the feet of children.
