The tradition of hanging wreaths on your door during the holidays first began in Germany in 1839. Apparently, a Lutheran priest used a wreath to educate children on the meaning of Christmas, in addition to adding red and white candles to mark the approaching days. This tradition is still practiced in Germany today.
