One of the oldest operating universities in the world, University of Al-Quaraouiyine in Morocco, was founded by Fatima al-Fahri, an Arab Muslim woman. This impressive accomplishment took place in 859 AD. Though the university existed for thousands of years, it only became an official university in the 1950s.
