It takes 90 days for a single drop of water to travel the entire length of the mighty Mississippi River, from Lake Itasca to the Gulf of Mexico. At its widest point, the river is 7 miles (11 km) wide and its deepest spot is in New Orleans, near Algiers Point, and is approximately 200 feet (61 meters) deep.
