When TV executive Fred Silverman was on a flight, Frank Sinatra's "Strangers in the Night" was playing on the radio. Silverman misheard the memorable lyrics, "Doobie doobie doo" for "Scooby doobie doo" - and it stuck! The character's name and the show's title was changed - Scooby was originally called Too Much, which would have been a bit, well, too much.
