The original sketches for the Scooby-Doo characters were drawn by Iwao Takamoto. The Japanese-American artist took a Great Dane as a template and then inverted all its features - Great Danes have small chins, for example, while Scooby has a massive one. His back and legs also are much more crooked than those of his real-world counterparts.
