After the loincloth, skirts are the oldest garment. Dresses and skirts are considered feminine clothing in the west, but in many parts of the world dress and skirt like garments are worn by both genders. Up until the 1910s it was common practice to dress little boys in frilly dresses. Some western designers will show male variations of the skirt until today.
