The NBA first came to be as the Basketball Association of America in 1946, and one of the teams was called the Providence Steamrollers. This squad lasted a total of three seasons, putting together a cumulative record of 46-122. The Steamrollers still hold the dubious NBA record for the fewest games won in a season with six, in the 1947–48 season.
