Red hearts are synonymous with Valentine’s Day symbolism. Red is, amongst other things, associated with the color of blood. In the past, this lead some to believe that the heart, which pumps the blood, was the part of the body that felt love, thus tying it to the emotion. When the ancient Egyptians mummified their dead for burial, they removed every organ except for the heart as they believed it was the only part of the human body necessary for the trip through eternity.
