The “blood” used on the show is a combination of powdered food coloring, Karo syrup and detergent or dish soap. Powdered food coloring is used because the liquid version stains too much and doesn’t look as realistic. The spin-off series, Fear the Walking Dead, is a stand-alone show that takes place before The Walking Dead.
