As is the case with many dog breeds, the origins of dalmatians is unknown. They are thought to come from a region in Croatia known as Dalmatia, where they were used in war and worked as sentinels. However, some believe that their origins stretch all the way back to ancient Egypt – paintings of spotted dogs can be found in various tombs throughout the country.
